The Music Lesson

This elegant Beaux Art style carving conveys the essence of the art of musical performance - the climatic moment of audience surrender. Its wider interpretation nails the era in the history of popular music when the decorous good taste of symphonic product succumbed its sugarcoated petticoats to the aggressive, stripped down power of the emerging Boogie Beat. This use of allegorical symbolism applied to pop culture, is a cutting-edge concept that serves to link contemporary rhythm dominant music with the larger established pantheon of High Art. Roll over Mancini indeed!

ARTIST’S STATEMENT
El Zink is a mid career artist/music lover, established in public art, mural design, and oil painting with 26 years experience from which he has gained acute insight into the current cultural tableaux and the historical context that has formed it. - And he asks the timely question: “Buddy Can You Spare a Paradigm?” He has observed the maturation of 20th century popular music from an art historical perspective and seeks to consolidate Pop’s achievements into significant symbolic form.
